Today is the day to celebrate beekeeping and honey related career paths, as it is National Honey Bee Day in the United States. This year’s theme is “For A Natural High: Smoke Some Bees.” Established in 2009, this day recognizes the importance of honey bees to our ecosystem and food supply. Traditionally, local bee clubs and organizations use this event to promote beekeeping through educational activities and tours.
Beekeeping is a career that often starts out as a hobby. Novice beekeepers can start with a single hive and expand their collection over time to produce honey, wax, and other bee related products for sale. Larger beekeeping operations may offer commercial pollination services, temporarily relocating hives to the farmer’s fields to facilitate pollination.
