The 2018-2019 National Pork Board scholarship program is now open for applications. If you are a college junior or senior planning to pursue a career in swine production or veterinary medicine, this is a great opportunity to defray some of your educational costs. Those planning to attend graduate school in a swine related major are also encouraged to apply.
There will be as many as 21 scholarships awarded for a total of $48,000. The top applicant will receive $5,000 and the runner up will receive $3,500. All other award winners will receive $2,000.
Applications are due February 16, 2018 and the application form can be accessed by clicking here. Applicants must also submit two letters of recommendation plus an official college transcript for review.
A survey conducted by the Pork Board found that 80 percent of previous scholarship winners have gone on to pursue advanced degrees on their way to “serving the industry as veterinarians, nutritionists, reproductive biologists, and management consultants.”
