The big news in the pet industry today was the entrance of major retailer IKEA into the pet product space. The pet items are being billed as the LURVIG line (which means “hairy” in Swedish, in case you were wondering).
IKEA is offering a wide range of products for both dogs and cats as a part of the LURVIG brand. There are the usual basics like leashes and bowls, but what will really catch an IKEA fan’s eye is the pet furniture. There are pet beds that look like small couches, a cat house on angled legs, modular housing options, and more. And as an added bonus for the budget conscious, nothing costs more than $60.
The products are reportedly already available in storefront locations in the U.S., so if you are close to an IKEA store you may want to stop by and check out the new merchandise. Distribution will expand to France, Canada, and Japan this fall; the United Kingdom will be added in 2018.
There are certainly lots of celebrities and major retailers looking to capitalize on the hot pet product market, and this trend shows no sign of slowing. Who will be next?
