National Zoo Keeper Week runs from July 17-23, 2016. This event is sponsored by the American Association of Zoo Keepers and recognizes the hardworking zoo keepers that act as animal caretakers, conservationists, and educators.
Zoo keepers earn relatively small salaries in return for the skilled care they provide, but most of these dedicated professionals will tell you that the job is about much more than the money. Keepers have direct interaction with rare and exotic animals, and that access is priceless. These jobs are often difficult to secure due to the high level of interest in working at the zoo. (If you are considering a zoo career, be sure to investigate internship opportunities that may give you a leg up on the competition).
Please join us in thanking zoo keepers for their commitment to conservation and education. You can interact via social media with AAZK and zoo professionals using the hashtags #ImAKeeper, #KeepersCare, and #NZKW2016.
